Data protection - Friends of Modern Africa (Foma)

For Foma the protection of your personal data is a matter of upmost concern.
Foma herewith would like to inform you how your data is handled and how you can exchange it with other users.

1. Foma’s fundamentals of handling your personal data

Foma complies with the following principles concerning the protection of personal data:

  • Foma records, processes and uses your personal data in full accordance to the data protecting laws of the Federal Republic of Germany and the respective rues and laws of the European Union.
  • Foma utilizes your data only to enable the use of our internet services which require a registration. By no means Foma will pass your personal date for advertisement or marketing purposes to third-parties.
  • By no means personal data will be used for commercial purposes.

2. Defined terms in regard to data protection

Foma uses specific terms in regard to data protection which you should know:

  • “Personal data” are all single details concerning your private or factual circumstances.
  • The users who are registered on the Foma-websites are called “Foma-members”.
  • The online services on the Foma-websites which require a registration are called “Foma-services”.
  • The personal data which have to be typed into the respective menues for the Foma-Services are called “registration details”.
  • The page of the Foma-websites on which Foma displays your personal data you specified and agreed with is called “profile”. 

3. What does Foma know about you, what do you allow Foma and the Foma-members and what happens with the personal data?

3.1 Registration details

In order to run the Foma-services Foma has to collect and process specific personal details from you as your registration data. These are the following:

  • Email address
  • A self chosen keyword

Your username and your keyword are by no means accessible for Foma-members. By no means Foma will forward these details to third-parties or pass these details in to a third-party.

The following details are always unrestrictedly accessible for visitors of the platform:

  • Name, surname
  • Your personal Headline
  • Your user Image
3.2 Voluntary details

Besides the registration details there is the possibility for you to provide additional data (“voluntary details”), which gives other Foma-members the opportunity learn more about you better and to choose you as a contact.

3.3 Your profile, contact management

The following details of information you gave to FOMA are visible for all Foma-members:

  • Nama, surname
  • Your personal Headline
  • Your user Image

Your profile contains a so called “mailbox”. In this mailbox you can receive, read, collect or delete short messages from other registered users. By no means your e-mail address will be forwared to other Foma-members. Your email-address will bever be visible to others.

4. Search mode

There are Foma-services providing different search functions to search for other Foma-members and projects. This search function is accessible for all visitors and users of the platform. As a member you can be found by other users. As described in 3.1 other details are not visible.

5. Newsletter

Foma distributes regular newsletters respectively weekly status-emails to all Foma-members which have subscribed to this newsletter.
It is possible to cancel this subscription by deactivating the option Order Newsletter on your profile.

6. Cookies

The Foma-services are using cookies after your registration (with username and keyword), through which you can be identified while using the platform. A cookie is being saved on your computer. After the end of the session the Cookie expires automatically.

7. “Under 18”

To be eligible for a Foma-membership and using Foma-services you have to be over 18. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for childrens privacy protection.

8. Changes of the data protection rules

Forma reserves the right to change the data protection rules at any time in order to close legal gaps or the necessity of new provided serves. Foma will inform you about any changes of the data protection rules by email to the e-mail adress you have registered with.

9. Accessibility of the data protection rules

It is possible to retrieve and print the data protection rules from any page of the Foma-websites using the link “data protection”.

This website has been compiled with the utmost care. Nevertheless, no responsibility can be accepted for the freedom from errors and accuracy of the information contained in it. All liability for damages arising directly or indirectly out of the use of this website is excluded, provided these are not caused intentionally or by gross negligence.
