Ashesi University College in Accra
The Ashesi University College in Accra, is the first non-religious private sector university in the country and a subsidiary of Ashesi University Foundation, a non-profit, publicly supported corporation based in Seattle, Washington. Ashesi's vision is to train a new generation of ethical and entrepreneurial business leaders in Africa to have the technological competence to engage in the demands of globalization. The school offers undergraduate degrees in computer science and business administration with a broad liberal arts core. Ashesi's curricula were designed in collaboration with some of America's most competitive liberal arts universities including Harvard, Swarthmore College and Berkeley, and standards are intended to be comparable. The inaugural class for the BSc degree began on March 4, 2002. The Founder, Patrick Awuah, previously worked as programme manager for Microsoft Corporation in the US. He holds an MBA from Berkeley University's Haas School of Business, a BSc in Engineering and a BA in Economics from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi honour society for excellence in engineering.
