STAMM Foundation

Causes and reasons for foundation in 1999 (application)/2001:

- Increasing poverty caused of 13 years of war (especially in the countryside)
- Increasing number of orphans (war, Malaria and AIDS)
- Increasing number of street children (crime, prostitution, venereal disease, drugs, alcoholism)
- Increasing number of widows/young mothers (war, sexual violence)
- Worse situations in refugee camps (unemployment, supply problems of the United Nations, diseases, epidemics)


Orphan’s Centre: “Centre Uranderera” (Bujumbura, 2001)

- 60 orphans (boys and girls at the age of three up to 22 years)
- all children join classes in schools
- objectives: reintegration to still existing family structures (aunts, uncles, ...)
or
- support in education or university/boarding
moreover:
- education/training for youths from outside centre (14 to 18 years) in
- tailor
- cook
- printing/arts


Street children’s Centre: “Centre Birashoboka” (Bujumbura, 2002)

- 120 boys (also former child soldiers)
- all children visit school or join a training/education
or
- classes to catch up regular school standards (especially former child soldiers who could not join school during war)
- Group of drummers (highlights: International UNICEF-Forum in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia, Burundian television)
- dance courses (traditional Burundian)
- sports courses (acrobatics, football)
- medical station
- AIDS prevention and information
- objectives: reintegration to still existing family structures, foster-families
or
support in education or university/boarding


Children’s Centre (Gitega, 2002, supported by German embassy in Nairobi, Kenya)

- 54 orphans and street children
- school
or
- training/education in: carpenter or tailor, cattle breeding and agriculture


Centre for young mothers: “Centre Nyubahiriza” (Bujumbura, 2005)

- 30 young mothers (partly under age; pregnant because of rape, dismissed by family, prostitution, venereal diseases, especially AIDS)
- babies
- kinder garden for 40 children from outside centre (same quarter)
- all women visit school or join education/training
- crafts
- education/training tailor


Orphan’s and Street children’s Centre and education Centre “Centre Garuka” (Muyinga, 2005)

- 50 orphans and (mainly) street children (boys)
- every child goes to school
- education/training:
- carpenter
- tailor
- bicycle mechanics

- (outside centre, countryside) food supply for
- vulnerables and malnutritious people (especially babies)
- twelve schools with 8.000 pupils

- (outside centre) education/supply Batwa
- agriculture for self supply
- school


Street children’s and former child soldier’s Centre (Ngozi, 2006)

- former child soldiers and street children

Education/training for former child soldiers (Kayanza, 2006)

- producing bricks and tiles

School and education centre “Polyvalente Carolus Magnus” (Bujumbura, 2006)

- Plan
- two buildings and a third one between (connected)
- school
- Laboratory (with education/training for laboratory technician), practical classes/lessons in Chemistry (school), orders from external clients (to earn money for further existence) and supply of
- Medical station
- Boarding for 150 children (for children from “Centre Birashoboka” and “Centre Uranderera”) ( no rents!)
- Sports court (also for youths from outside centre)
- Cultural centre (also for youths from outside centre)
- 2007
- First building (250 pupils, classes since September 2006)
- Second building under construction
